My research goal is to expand our understanding of categorization and recognition behavior.  The general approach that I take is to focus on predictions made by various computational models, such as formalized exemplar and prototype models of categorization and recognition, and guide my empirical research accordingly.  In general, I then collect empirical data and investigate how well these models that embody certain representation principles account for the observed behavior.  The successes and failures of these models are instructive with regard to the underlying cognitive architecture of categorization and recognition processes.
